Premise
In the latter part of 1990s. American journalist Jake Adelstein relocates to Tokyo to join the staff of a prominent Japanese newspaper as the debut foreign reporter. He is taken under the wing of a veteran detective from the “vice squad,” he begins to discover the dark and dangerous world of Japanese Yakuza.

Development
Tokyo Vice was initially set as a film in 2013 featuring Daniel Radcliffe attached to star as Adelstein. Anthony Mandler was set to director, and development was sufficiently advanced that the mid-2014 date for a start of production was planned. In June 2019 the project was revived into a television show, receiving a straight 10 episodes to series order from WarnerMedia to stream through the streaming platform HBO Max. Ansel Elgort was slated to serve as executive producer of the series with J. T. Rogers writing the script and Destin Daniel Cretton in charge of the series. 4. In October, the year 2019, Michael Mann was hired to direct the pilot episode of the series. He also served as the executive producer of the series. The series will premiere on April 7 The first 3 episodes will be being available immediately, and then two episodes every week until the series’ finale on April 28th 2022.
Casting
As part of his executive producer news, Ansel Elgort was also scheduled to be the lead.
