Who is Nalin Prabhat?
Nalin Prabhat is a distinguished IPS officer who has been appointed as the Special Director General of Police amid rising terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir.
Nalin Prabhat is a 1992 batch IPS officer who hails from Andhra Pradesh cadre. Recently, the Union Home Ministry announced his appointment, following which he replaced R.R. Swain, who retired on September 30. The appointment is seen as a significant change in the security structure of Jammu and Kashmir.
Nalin Prabhat’s impressive career
Nalin Prabhat is 55 years old, and is a highly decorated officer who has been awarded the Police Medal for Gallantry thrice. His career includes several significant achievements, including leading the anti-Naxal special police force ‘Greyhounds’ in Andhra Pradesh.
He has successfully conducted many sensitive operations and his specialty has been in dealing with terrorism and Naxalism. Apart from this, he has also served as Inspector General (IG) of Operations in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Additional Director General (ADG) in charge of deployments in Kashmir.
Termination of tenure in National Security Guard (NSG)
The government has recently limited the tenure of Nalin Prabhat as Director General of National Security Guard (NSG).
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has curtailed his tenure by approving the proposal of the Ministry of Home Affairs. Also, his inter-state deputation from Andhra Pradesh to Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre for three years or until further orders has also been approved.
This decision has been taken by relaxing the deputation guidelines.
