Nowadays everyone wants to stay fit and healthy. People are paying attention to their health and adopting a healthy lifestyle. For this reason the healthcare industry is growing rapidly. It is a huge global industry with a total market value of approximately $5 trillion. This industry includes a wide range of products ranging from fitness travel to skincare.
Recently a new trend has come in this industry which is being called “Wellness Water”. People have gone crazy over this new product and its sales are increasing rapidly.
What is Wellness Water?
Wellness water is actually just ordinary water sold in attractive packaging. Many types of strange substances are mixed in it. The newest trend is hydrogen water. Hydrogen water is made by adding additional hydrogen gas to ordinary water.
Companies sell this hydrogen-rich water by filling it in pouches, aluminum cans or special bottles. Some companies also add electrolytes and flavorings to make it more appealing.
Reason for popularity
Now the question arises that why do people like this wellness water so much? Its popularity has increased due to its many benefits. It is claimed that the hydrogen molecules present in this water enter the body cells and act as antioxidants.
Benefits to be mentioned
Many benefits of wellness water are being said. It is said that:
- This improves exercise ability
- Quick recovery from injuries
- Skin remains clean and spotless
- Allergy symptoms reduce
- Immunity becomes stronger
- Aging comes slowly
- mood remains good
If these claims are true then hydrogen water appears to be a magical chemical. Even in the Harry Potter series, perhaps Voldemort should have found hydrogen water instead of the Philosopher’s Stone!
Questions on claims
Although many influencers and companies are promoting these benefits on social media, there is controversy among scientists regarding these claims. Some studies show its benefits while other studies reject them. Scientists also don’t agree on whether increasing antioxidants actually improves health.
Also, it is difficult to ascertain the quantity of hydrogen molecules because companies do not provide this information. According to scientists, beverages should not contain more than 2.14% hydrogen molecules. But its exact quantity is not mentioned in most of the products.
Need to be careful
It is clear that the benefits of wellness water are not yet scientifically proven. Therefore one has to be careful about this. Yes, its bottles look quite attractive and influencers tout its immense benefits. But until scientific validation is received, questions will be raised on its wellness.
Another look
After all, wellness water may be a hoax. But still people are crazy about it. Of course some people may get its benefits, but buying it without expert opinion can be risky. Therefore there is a need to be careful.
The wellness industry has previously come up with many products that were claimed to be beneficial for health. But later these were proved useless. Well, Wellness Water might turn out to be one of those things! If so, then it would be better if we ignore it and stick to the old adages for our health – “Simplicity is the best recipe” and “Natural is best”.
