Washington — The Senate approved Bridget Brink as the US ambassador to Ukraine late Wednesday, filling the post as officials plan to send American diplomats back to Kiev amid the country’s ongoing war against Ukraine. Russian invasion.

The senior foreign service officer, who spent most of his career in the shadow of the former Soviet Union, was nominated for the post by President Joe Biden last month. It was unanimously approved by the Senate without a formal roll call.

American diplomats evacuated Kiev when the war began three months ago, but the US embassy reopened on Wednesday.

The ambassadorial post has been vacant since former President Donald Trump abruptly sacked Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch in 2019. He later became a prominent figure in the initial impeachment proceedings against Trump.
