The real reason Donald Trump always eats fast food will make you feel bad for him
Donald Trump loves fast food. The president abstains from alcohol, but he has other shortcomings. Trump loves McDonald’s. He generally prefers fast food chains to local DC burger joints. (In case you were wondering, Trump likes American cheese on his hamburger, but not pickles.) And Trump likes the extra serving of dessert.
Donald Trump is not afraid of his love of fast food, and there are many reasons why he loves fast food. One reason is a fear dating back decades (page 9). But the biggest reason for them is directly related to factors in the President’s White House residence (page 10).
10. He loves the taste of fast food
The New York Times describes Trump as “the fast food president of the nation.” And he probably wouldn’t challenge that title. Although he can eat wherever he wants, Trump loves McDonald’s, where he orders Filet-O-Fish, Big Mac or Quarter Pounder. He also ate Kentucky Fried Chicken and Burger King on his private plane during the campaign trip. Like many Americans, he loves fast food.
Yet, as the Times explains, “The nerdy, low-browed image of the jet-set leader carrying buckets of fried chicken on his private jet with Trump’s gold-plated seat belt buckles is also carefully crafted.” Presidential candidates often use food to find common ground with voters. A Republican strategist told The Times: “There is nothing more American and more popular than fast food.
9. Eating fast food probably became a habit during the election campaign.
The New York Times notes that “junk food has long been a staple of electoral life” for Trump and other presidential candidates. This habit often comes out of necessity. But we all know that habits are hard to break. Donald Trump hasn’t stopped eating fast food after settling into the White House. Politico even reported that Trump asked the White House kitchen staff to copy one of his favorite fast food dishes.
The President asked the kitchen to give him a quarter of a pound. (He asked for cheese, no pickles, and extra ketchup. He also asked for fried apple pie for dessert.) Staff reportedly “cannot live up to” the real deal. So a guard walked up New York Avenue to McDonald’s to get some food.
8. Like many Americans, Donald Trump does not consider himself a foodie.
Is there any other reason Donald Trump eats fast food? The Times describes Trump as “the Queens kid who crosses the river to reach Manhattan’s glittering skyline, but never listens to the city’s upscale cuisine.” The president has simple tastes and likes to stick to what he knows. Trump, like most Americans, is fine with that.
Surveys show that nearly half of Americans who eat out consider themselves “foodies.” However, this rate is much higher among younger Americans than among older people. Gourmets like to discover new tastes and discover world cuisines when they go out to eat. But Donald Trump doesn’t seem to care either.
7. Trump says he’s pretty healthy
Trump’s typical campaign order was heavy. Two Big Macs, two Filet-o-Fish and chocolate shakes don’t exactly make for a healthy meal. In fact, it contained almost a day’s worth of calories. How did Trump justify this? He took out the buns. According to Trump, this solved all his health problems.
6. Controls the size of diet drinks
Donald Trump’s favorite drink is Diet Coke, and we all know if it’s “diet”, right? Trump seems to believe that these small choices in his otherwise unhealthy diet will really make a difference to his health.
5. The president liked fast food chains first because of their cleanliness
Donald Trump also loves fast food chains for a surprising reason: they are clean. As The New York Times explains, the president “loves fast food for its consistency and, at least, the promise of basic hygiene.”
Trump once told CNN’s Anderson Cooper, “One bad burger, you can ruin McDonald’s.” You get a bad burger, Wendy’s and all the other places and they go bust. He added: “I am a very clean person. I like cleanliness and you better go there than go where you don’t know where the food came from. It is a certain standard.
4. Donald Trump is actually an enemy of germs
The President doesn’t just prioritize cleanliness when choosing where to eat. Trump has distinctly germaphobic tendencies. He even called himself that, saying he was “too germaphobic.” He even described the custom of shaking hands as a “barbaric tradition” and “terrible”.
In his 1997 book The Art of the Comeback, he wrote: “I’m a clean-hands freak. I feel so much better after thoroughly washing my hands, which I do as much as possible. Trump also prefers to drink through a straw. He eats his pizza with a fork. And he hates pressing elevator buttons or letting the public get too close to him.
3. You can even have OCD for it
Another possible reason why Donald Trump eats fast food? He could use this habit to deal with his mental illness. Some people think that Trump’s germaphobia may indicate obsessive-compulsive disorder – and Trump hasn’t ruled out that. Although a professional will diagnose, the links are easy to see. According to WebMD, “germaphobes are obsessed with cleanliness and feel compelled to over-clean, but they really do have obsessive-compulsive disorder.”
Verywell Mind reports that the line between germaphobia and obsessive-compulsive disorder is “not always clear.” Many people worry about germs. But an all-consuming obsession with germs, combined with compulsive behaviors about washing or disinfecting, can signal a problem. In 1993, a young Donald Trump told Howard Stern that he washes his hands “as often as possible” throughout the day. Even Trump admitted: “It could be a psychological problem.
2. Trump has another fear: poison
Another important factor leads Donald Trump to fast food preference. Newsweek reports that the president views fast food as the safest option to avoid poisoning, according to Michael Wolff’s book Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House. Wolff wrote that Trump’s “lifelong fear of poisoning is one of the reasons he likes to eat at McDonald’s.” As Wolff points out, Trump’s rationale was that “no one knew he was coming, and the meal was safely prepared in advance.”
The Guardian reports that, thanks to the way Wolff writes about Trump’s fear of poisoning, it “clearly preceded his ascension to high office. So it could only get worse with the very real tensions and dangers of the presidency. Fortunately, with the Secret Service protecting Trump, any enemy would likely have a hard time poisoning him.
1. He doesn’t trust the White House staff
Finally, the main reason why Trump continues to eat fast food may be that he does not fully trust the White House staff. According to The Huffington Post, according to Wolff, Trump’s fear of poison or contagion “has led to ‘new rules’ prohibiting White House staff from touching toothbrushes and other personal items. It is unclear whether the president believes a particular person or group is there to harm him.
The Trump regime seems to be feeding off a few fears. And to be honest, it’s far from the first president to take office who had a phobia or two. He doesn’t seem terrified of the negative health effects of high-fat foods. But his doctor is watching him and may even get the president to start an exercise regimen.
