“All we’re trying to do is to walk in God’s way.” Calhoun, a Lawrenceville, Ga. native who took over from Hall of Hall of Famer Buddy Anderson last year. In 1978 Anderson has been the coach of the Rebels. Calhoun directed his Rebels to a record of 4-6 in the season he was in charge of in 2021. The team began the season 1-6 in the difficult Region 3 of Class 7A however, it won three of its last four games.

Calhoun is Vestavia’s 7th head coach. He succeeded John Howell, Thompson Reynolds, Doug Wheeler, Larry Blakeney, Alvin Bresler, and Anderson. This is the third major coaching job for the Region 3 schools after 2021’s season. Tim Vakakes, a former Jackson-Olin head coach, was selected to succeed Shawn Raney at Spain Park. Hoover is currently searching for the replacement for Josh Niblett, who retired in Alabama and took a new job in Gainesville (Ga.). Andy Urban, the athletic director at Hoover High School, told AL.com that he was looking to find a replacement to be approved by the school board at the next school board session on the 13th of January.
