Netflix finally dropped the first one Pinocchio Teaser trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s long-running film adaptation of Carlo Collodi’s classic 1883 Italian novel of the same name. The stop-motion animated fantasy film will hit theaters later this year in December.

Defined as a re-enactment of the classic fairy tale, Netflix’s Pinocchio is a stop-motion animated musical that will follow the adventures of a wooden boy in search of a place in the world. It will feature a star-studded vocal ensemble led by newcomer Gregory Mann as the board boy, Ewan McGregor as Jiminy Cricket, and David Bradley as Geppetto.

“Set during the rise of Fascism in Mussolini’s Italy, the film is a story of love and disobedience as Pinocchio struggles to live up to his father’s expectations,” Logline says.

Additional cast includes Academy Award winner Tilda Swinton (Isle of Dogs), Christoph Waltz (Epic) and Cate Blanchett (How to Train Your Dragon movies) along with Finn Wolfhard (stranger things), John Turturro (Batman), Ron Perlman (hell boy), Tim Blake Nelson (guard) and Burn Gorman (Enola Holmes).

Oscar winner Guillermo del Toro, who has been affiliated with the project since 2018, is co-directing. Pinocchio with Mark Gustafson (Fantastic Mr. Fox). Written by Del Toro and Patrick McHale, with a score by Alexandre Desplat. It comes from The Jim Henson Company, which worked with Netflix in the 2019s. Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.
