OpenAI, a large lab working in the field of artificial intelligence, has recently expanded its board of directors. With this decision, many new faces have got a place on the board and an old veteran has also been called back.
Entry of new board members
- Doctor Sue Desmond-Hellman: Dr. Sue is an outstanding leader who has worked in both nonprofits and private companies. Working for a large company like Sony, Nicole has gained experience in dealing with legal and regulatory challenges around the world.
- Fizzy Simo: Fizzy is currently the CEO of Instacart and has previously also worked at Facebook. Fiji has deep experience in the consumer technology sector. He is an expert in understanding people’s needs and improving their experience. Their ideas will help OpenAI improve its products and services based on artificial intelligence.
With the arrival of these three new faces, OpenAI’s board has added knowledge and capabilities. There has also been diversity in the board as these people come from different backgrounds.

Sam Altman returns
OpenAI has also re-inducted its longtime co-founder and former CEO Sam Altman to its board. Sam was shown the door from the board in 2019. But a big law firm named WilmerHale investigated the case without any bias.
The investigation revealed that the decision to remove Sam from the board was not taken due to any wrongdoing on his part. Nor did it have anything to do with security or money. In fact, at that time there was a lack of mutual trust between the board members and Sam.
WilmerHale’s report states that Sam should monitor the progress of OpenAI and contribute to its direction. In such a situation, his return can prove beneficial for the board.
New rules for better governance
Following the results of the investigation, OpenAI will now also implement new governance guidelines. At the same time, he will also ensure that a situation of conflict of interest does not arise. Some special policies will also be made for this.
