Alia Bhatt’s “Darlings” directed by Jasmeet K. Reen is heading to Netflix. Written by Reen, Parveez Sheikh and Vijay Maurya, the film is produced by Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment and Bhatt’s Eternal Sunshine Productions.

As reported by Variety, it is billed as “a black comedy that explores the lives of a mother and daughter fighting against everything, trying to find their place in Mumbai, seeking courage and love in exceptional circumstances.” The cast also includes Shefali Shah, Vijay Varma and Roshan Mathew. The music of the film is by Vishal Bhardwaj and the lyrics are by Gulzar.

“’Darlings’ has a very special place in my heart,” Bhatt told Variety about his debut as a producer. We are very proud and happy that the film is taking shape and we hope it will entertain and engage audiences worldwide.”

Reen, who previously directed the short film “The Right Note,” told the entertainment portal that he “couldn’t have asked for a better feature film, and it is an absolute pleasure to work with a pool of versatile and talented actors.” I’m delighted that Red Chillies and Eternal Sunshine are taking the movie around the world with Netflix.”

According to a 2016 Variety report, Netflix has a long-term content deal with Red Chillies. “We continue our long-standing partnership with ‘Darlings’ with Red Chillies Entertainment and are excited to host the first production of Alia Bhatt,” said Tatilsha Rao, director of film and licensing for Netflix India to Variety. He described “Darlings” as “a must-see movie – a perfect storm of gripping plotline, new storytelling brought to life by powerful performances”.

Bhatt is currently making his English-language debut in the US in Netflix’s international spy thriller “Heart of Stone.” He joins Gal Gadot and Jamie Dornan in Netflix and Skydance, directed by Tom Harper and written by Greg Rucka and Allison Schroeder.

Bhatt was last seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s movie “Gangubai Kathiawadi,” which was the third biggest opening last weekend and the biggest non-holiday opening for a Bollywood movie since the start of the pandemic. The film had its world premiere at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival, and nearly 800 audience members gave it a standing ovation. The movie is currently streaming on Netflix.

This year, Bhatt made his Tamil movie debut with SS Rajamouli’s Ram Charan, Ajay Devgn and Jr. He did it with the period drama “RRR” starring NTR. She will be seen in Ayan Mukherji’s “Brahmastra” opposite her lover Ranbir Kapoor. The film, which took seven years to make, is slated to be released this fall.

She will be reuniting with her co-star Ranveer Singh in “Gully Boy” in “Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani” directed by Karan Johar. The movie also features Preity Zinta, Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan and Shabana Azmi. She is also in the cast of “Takht”, also directed by KJo, starring Vicky Kaushal, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Anil Kapoor, Janhvi Kapoor, Ranveer Singh and Bhumi Pednekar. She is also working with Priyanka Chopra and Katrina Kaif on “Jee Le Zaara,” an all-female road trip movie directed by Farhan Akhtar.
