Dakota Johnson Doesn’t Regret Playing in ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’

While Fifty Shades of Grey wasn’t widely received by critics, Dakota Johnson says she has no regrets about her steamy, starring role in the erotic drama.

Speaking to Vogue UK for the upcoming February issue, the 26-year-old actress said she was “proud” of the film, especially because of the doors it opened in her career.

“I don’t need to go [Fifty Shades of Grey]“The harder I work, the more the general public sees the different things I can do. Do I think it opens doors? Yes. More people know my name.”

It’s undeniable that the film raised the profile of Johnson (who is also the daughter of Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson), previously known for roles in independent films and for her role in the Fox sitcom Ben and Kate.

Johnson also spoke candidly about ageism, which appears to be the system in the film industry and show business.

“Why doesn’t my mom make movies? She is an outstanding actress! why not my grandma [85-year-old Tippi Hedren] in the movies? “This industry is so cruel,” he said. “No matter how tough you are, sometimes you feel like you’re unwanted. It’s ridiculous and senseless.”

“I’m not sure I’ll be able to work again every time I’m free,” Johnson added. “I don’t know what it is, but it’s a sure thing that happened to me.”

While there are four movies currently in pre-production – including two Fifty Shades sequels – it doesn’t look like they’re going to have too many cuts anytime soon.

Rumors had it that Johnson’s co-star Jamie Dornan wasn’t all that excited about the erotic saga and that he wouldn’t return to reprise his role as the sexually overbearing industrialist Christian Gray in future sequels.

However, the 33-year-old actor’s representative criticized the reports, stating that Dornan “can’t wait to make the next movie”.
