New Delhi:- COVID-19 is not over yet and yet another wave is likely. But a large section of the society has already started behaving and living like a pandemic was never a thing.

Social distancing, wearing face masks and using hand sanitisers are now a thing of the past.

But as people start ignoring safety precautions, there are clear signs of an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in some parts of the country. Although no dangerous surge has occurred so far, it is still a matter of concern. The most visible increase in new infections is in the national capital.

299 cases in 24 hours in Delhi

Delhi on Wednesday recorded 299 new COVID-19 infections with a daily positivity rate of 2.49 per cent.

This is almost 50 more than the 202 cases reported in the preceding 24 hours.

According to the Delhi government’s COVID-19 health bulletin, 12,022 tests were conducted in the national capital. Of these, 7,411 were RT-PCR tests and 4,611 were rapid antigen tests. There are currently 814 active cases in Delhi.

During the last 24 hours, 173 people have been cured of this virus, taking the total number to 18,39,909.

No one has died due to this virus in the last 24 hours. The death toll stands at 26,158 and the fatality rate is 1.4 per cent.

Delhi has recorded 18,66,881 positive cases of infection. The cumulative positivity rate is 4.98 percent.

Noida schools forced to close

Not only Delhi where new cases have increased. In Noida, which is part of the National Capital Region (NCR), several schools were forced to close after several students tested positive for COVID-19.

Till Tuesday, a total of 20 students were confirmed testing positive for COVID-19 in Noida.

One of the schools, which on Monday reported infection to 13 children and three teachers, has gone to online mode by next week. The details of other schools could not be confirmed, as it was learned that the 10 children who have now tested positive for COVID-19 belong to different schools.

The health department said in a statement that 33 more people, including 10 children, have tested positive for the infection since Tuesday morning and the total number of active cases in the district adjoining Delhi now stands at 90.

All schools in Noida and Greater Noida have been advised to immediately inform the health department of any child showing cough, cold, fever, diarrhea or any symptoms of COVID-19.
